Nordan Smith has announced a price increase on all
Medical Gases containing Oxygen USP and Nitrogen
NF. The adjustment effective immediately, is a 5%
price increase only on those gases or derivatives
of those gases.
As a result of increased regulatory interest, Nordan
Smith has increased its expenditures to improve
and strengthen our regulatory compliance program.
We must continue to do this to be able to assure
you of a reliable supply of medical gases that are
in compliance. The adjustment of our price is not
a pass through of any government-imposed tax or
charge, but rather, it is being imposed to recover
the costs involved in the investments detailed below.
Medical gases is an area that is going through many
changes. Meeting the regulatory requirements for
medical gases requires substantially more investment
than is required for industrial or other gases.
Validation requirements for filling, and analytical
equipment, as well as the burden of increased training
and testing, combine to create upward cost pressure.
So, although our product has not changed, the operational
infrastructure and documentation requirements necessary
to support medical gases have changed.
The regulatory process is evolutionary. We cannot
speculate what the regulatory climate will be in
the future. However, we do intend to continue working
closely with government agencies, regulators and
the gases industry to develop sensible and cost-effective
rules and procedures that will benefit all parties
involved.
